About Waiotapu Thermal Reserve

Mud Pool photoWaiotapu Thermal Reserve is a geothermal area just north of the Taupo Volcanic Zone. It has been a protected reserve since 1931 and is famous for its rich colours.

The area contains multiple hot springs and the famous Lady Knox Geyser. Other unique features include The Artist's Palette, Champagne Pool, and Primrose Terrace.

Although there is an entrance fee to the reserve, a huge boiling mud pool exists just outside the reserve that can be seen for free.
