About New Plymouth

New Plymouth is a city located in the Taranaki Region near the iconic Mount Taranaki. The city serves the region's principal industries such as dairy farming and oil, natural gas & petrochemical extraction and production. Notable city attractions include Pukekura Park, Len Lye Centre and Art Gallery, the Coastal Walkway, the Len famous artwork known as the Wind Wand.

The most notable landmark is nearby Mount Taranaki, a near conical shaped volcno that stands out from the surrounding countryside. When not covered in cloud, the mountain can be seen from many vantage points and makes a good reference point. Besides this mountain, the rugged coastline next to the city is a favourite place for swimming, surfing, and walking.Such natural gems close to a city afford the citizens of New Plymouth the ability to ski, surf, and swim in the same day..

NEw Plymouth gets its name from the English city of Plymouth which is where the first English settlers to New Zealand migrated from.
