There are 26 Regional Parks in the Auckland region which contain beaches, bush, wildlife, and recreational opportunities.
Auckland Domain is the most well known due to its impressive size and proximity to the Auckland CBD. Smaller parks that are also close to the CBD include: Albert Park, Myers Park, Victoria Park, and Western Park.
Most of the volcanic cones within the Auckland Volcanic Field contain parks such as Eden Gardens on Mt Eden. One Tree Hill Domain and Cornwall Park on One Tree Hill form the largest parkland in Auckland. Fortifications, tunnels, and stunning walks are a feature of North Head, while Mt Eden and One Tree Hill also fortifications.
Auckland's botanic gardens are located in the south in Manurewa while Western Springs which is attached to MOTAT museum and Auckland Zoo is located further west. Devonport, Rangitoto Island, Tiritiri Matangi, and Waiheke Island all have reserves that can be accessed via ferry from Circular Quay.
The Waitakere Ranges Regional Park to the west of Auckland offers large areas of native bush with some great vistas over Auckland city, Manakau Harbour, and the western coastline.
