Piha Surf Life Saving Club is the busiest surf patrol in the country as is classed as one of the most dangerous beaches in the country. Dangeous rips, big waves, and wind lead to many rescues each year.
The beach is also well known nationally as it features in "Piha Rescue" a top rating television reality programme about rescues at this beach.
