Devonport is a suburb in Auckland's North Shore that adjoins the suburb of Cheltenham. Located on the sourtherly tip of the North Shore it affords views of both the Hauraki Gulf and Waitemata Harbour. Downtown Auckland and the Auckland Harbour Bridge are clearly visible especially from the volcanic cones of North Head and Mt Victoria. As is the case with all suburbs on the North Shore, access is via the Auckland Harbour Bridge, but Devonport can be directly accessed by ferries that depart regularly throughout the day, (from Pier 1 at the Ferry Terminal in Quay Street to Devonport Wharf). This makes Devonport popular with tourists and locals often take the ferry in the evening for dinner and enjoy the view of Auckland at night on the return trip.
Devonport has some great cafes, restaurants and an array of shops that specialise in antiques, gifts, and books. There are a number of reserves and Devonport even has its own beach aptly named Devonport Beach. All this makes Devonport a sort after suburb to live.
