About Gold Coast Beaches

Gold Coast location mapThe Gold Coast is both a city and one of the most popular stretches of coast in Australia. The beaches here are numerous and famous for their golden sand, good surf, sunshine hours, and high-rise apartments and hotels all vying for the best views of the coast.

The most popular beaches and surf breaks along this long stretch of coast include: Gold Coast include Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Mermaid Beach, Miami, and Burleigh Heads. Much of the land in the Gold Coast once existed as wetlands, which were converted to man-made waterways today, covering an area 9 times greater than Venice in Italy. Within these waterways contain islands consisting of upmarket homes, each with a private stretch of sand and place to park a boat. Bridges allow for car access. There are numerous beaches in these waterways. Popular beaches here include Southport, Marine Stadium, Currumbin Alley, and Budds Beach.

Coolangatta, the southernmost part of the Gold Coast sits on the border with New South Wales. This suburb is also the most easterly point on the mainland of Queensland.
