About Tongan Animals
Tonga has few land animals and no poisonous land snakes. The biggest island, Tongatapu has some native birds. Included is the endemic malau, and native lorikeets and the koki parrot. There are a total of 73 species of bird in all with 2 being endemic. Other species include frigate birds, Pacific black duck, Pacific golden plover, pacific swallows, and swiftlets. Eua next to Tongatapu has native forests that safely house animals due to its extensive forest cover.
