The Government Gardens in Rotorua were created in the 1890 - an undertaking that transformed a scrub covered geothermal area into an oasis of Edwardian charm. Some fine old trees survive from that early date, notably some multi trunked Japanese firs, Elegans, and an unusual weeping Californian redwood, (Sequoia).
