About Cairns Birdwing

The largest butterfly in Australia is the Cairns Birdwing and it is also one of the most beautiful. It has a huge wingspan over 16 cm (6 ½ inches) with striking patterns and colours on both the upper and underside of the wings.

The upper side of the male's wing is black with emerald green steak with the female lacking the green. The female is larger than the male and both have a yellow and red body.

Its distribution and habitat is tropical rainforest in North East Queensland.
