Jonah Lomu is a rugby union player from New Zealand. He is widely known as one of the great Rugby players of all time, while many say he was the greatest. He became the first true global superstar of rugby and was considered the most intimidating players on the field. Standing at 1.96 m (6 ft 5 in) he was considered a freak because he had explosive pace which is unusual for someone of his stature. Northern Hemisphere teams had trouble tackling him as he was able to break out of tackles leaving the opposition bowled over.
By 1995/96 Jonah was diagnosed with a serious kidney disorder. His career was on put on hold. He received a kidney transplant in 2004,, and he tried to revive his Rugby career and rejoin the All Blacks. He was unable to make the All Blacks and moved into the sport of bodybuilding instead.
