On
1 April 1917, Echo Crater violently erupted, completely destroying an accomodation
house, killing 2 people. The crater quickly filled with water forming what
is now Frying Pan Lake. The lake covers 38,000 square metres, being the worlds
largest hot spring with an average depth of 6 metres. The average lake temperature
is about 50 degrees or 121 Farenheight. It is about 50 metres deep and has
not been active since its initial eruption.
