About Rotorua Lake

Rotorua may be famous for its volcanic activity, but it is also a hotspot for scenic lakes. Most of these lakes are not only set in scenic locations, but also provide some of the world's best trout fishing. There are 12 lakes within Rotorua, the include: Lake Rotorua, Lake Tarawera, Lake Rotoiti, Lake Rotoma, Lake Rotoehu, Lake Okataina, Lake Rotokakahi (Green Lake), Lake Rotokakahi (Green Lake), Lake Rerewhakaaitu, Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake), Lake Okareka, and Lake Okaro.

Most of these lakes were formed due to volcanic processes. Rotorua is part of the Taupo Volcanic Zone, which is one of the world's most active volcanic areas.
