About Pukekura Park

Pukekura Park is an award winning botanic gardens in New Plymouth, Taranaki. Covering around 52ha, the park consists of native trees and ferns as well as exotic trees, plants & flowers. There are also a number of lakes and waterfalls with walking trails throughout the park.

In the heart of the park is 'Tea House On The Lake' where you can order a tea or coffee as well as a meal. The Tea House building itself dates back to the 1930s. The venue even caters for weddings and parties with the park being a popular place to wedding photos. Takeaway icecream is popular on warmer days.

A large indoor fernery has ferns and colourful indoor plants & flowers including: begonias, fuchsias, and orchids. The building has three glass-topped areas embedded into the hillside. This creates the perfect environment for the many temperate indoor and outdoor plants both native and exotic.

Surrounding the park are a number of sporting parks and venues as well as the Brooklands Zoo. The zoo is free and great for families. Housed here are a variety of animals including domestic farmyard animals, reptiles and amphibians, meerkats, monkeys, tamarins, otters, and a host of birds.
