Surf BreakCastlepoint is located on Wairarapa's east coast, 68 kms from Masterton - the perfect distance for a day trip from Wellington.

Castlepoint was named in 1770 by Captain Cook who was struck by the similarities of Castle Rock to the battlements of a castle. With its fossil-rich limestone reef and magnificent 162 metre high Castle Rock, Castlepoint is is one of the most spectacular sites along the Wairarapa coastline. Long stretches of beach and a sheltered lagoon provide opportunity for a variety of water-based recreational pursuits, and the area has a rich natural history. With it's dramatic setting and much photographed lighthouse it is arguably Wairarapa's most famous beach.

Day trippers can enjoy ocean views, fabulous walks, surfing and safe swimming. With boats easy to launch, fishing and diving are popular past-times and charter trips readily available. There is a 9 hole Golf Course for the keen golfer, a general store, restaurant and camping ground.
