View from the top of Mount Maunganui looking at the main beach and the town, with a small section of the port just visible to the right. Mount Manganui is the name of both the town and the extinct volcanic cone that rises abrupty from the coast. Known locally as 'The Mount' it is sometimes referred to by its Māori name, Mauao.
