Terre ('Big Land'), is by far the largest island of New Caledonia, being 400km
long and 50km wide making it the 6th largest island in the South Pacific.
New Caledonia as a whole has 1600km of reef and the main barrier reef surrounds
the main island Grande Terre. The western and eastern sides of this island
are approximately 600km each which creates a magnificent 23,5000 sq km turqoise
lagoon, the world largest.
