East of Armidale on the road to the coast, New England National Park includes part of the high eastern escarpment of the Great Dividing Range. Point Lookout has an altitude of 1562m providing extensive views across the escarpment to the coast.
This area has gained World Heritage status and consists of sub-alpine to temperate forests. Wildlife includes the Lyrebird and Platypus.
The park is one of the oldest and most popular in NSW. The total area of the park is currently 55,805 hectares.
