About Barron Gorge

Barron Gorge National Park near Kuranda encompasses part of the Atherton Tableland and down toward the coast near Cairns. Accessible by road, there are 2 more novel ways of seeing the gorge. The Skyrail cableway offers aerial vistas ot the gorge over the rainforest canopy with views out to Cairns. Alternatively, you could take the historic Kuranda train which offers a luxury way to travel through the gorge over 36 bridges, through 15 tunnels offering unparalled views of waterfalls and the rainforest in carriages with open-air windows. The train arrives at Kuranda or Cairns some 90 minutes later, depending which direction you travel.

At the top of the Gorge near Kuranda are the Barron Falls. The 5km (3 mile) Douglas Track passes through the gorge to Granite Rock, and further to the Tablelands.
